A new automatic method for tracking rats in the Morris water maze

چکیده

Morris water maze (MWM) test is widely used to evaluate the learning and memory deficits in rodents. Image processing pattern recognition can be analyse videos recognize automatically tracking MWM. There are several commercial free access software that allows analyzing behavioral tasks although they also have limitations such as automation, cost, user intervention among other things. The aim of this paper was develop a new image technique track rat MWM, which we called RatsTrack. MWM performed with an animal model for Alzheimer, were recorded measure distance, time, speed. segmentation method based on projection video frames made pool identification, eliminating rat, while conserving shape pool. Then, Hough transformation position radius Finally, frame released into established using mathematical morphology techniques added plugin ImageJ software. technique, RatsTrack, successfully detected located without intervention, significantly decreasing operational time providing results speed, acceleration parameters test. Alzheimer's rats compared control group presented significant data measured RatsTrack will freely available public use.

Automatic Tracking Analysis in Morris Water Maze Biomedical Videos

We present an automatic video processing system for tracking analysis in the Morris water escape testing videos. This system is able to extract automatically from such videos information (metadata) describing the spatiotemporal trajectories of animals in the maze and the timings of behavioral events such as stopping or crossing of a target area. The specific semantic metadata are produced by th...

Results of a new cognitive method in rats on the Morris water maze used in modeling experimental Alzheimer's disease

Materials and methods The CA3 neurons were chemically lesioned by intracerebrally administration of NaN3 in doses of 8 and 16 mg/ml. To examine learning functions Morris maze was used. During acquisition trials animals had to find a black platform within 120 s. We measured the “escape latency"(msec). Detailed histopathology of brain was performed at the termination of the study. Learning functi...

Morris Water Maze – a Versatile Cognitive Tool

The Morris water maze is widely used to study spatial memory and learning. Animals are placed in a pool of water that is colored opaque with powdered non-fat milk or non-toxic tempera paint, where they must swim to a hidden escape platform. Because they are in opaque water, the animals cannot see the platform, and cannot rely on scent to find the escape route. Instead, they must rely on externa...

Effect of Ovariectomy on Reference Memory Version of Morris Water Maze in Young Adult Rats

Background: The effect of ovariectomy and accompanying sudden loss of circulating gonad hormones on spatial learning performance in the young adult rats was examined. We hypothesized that spatial learning and memory in a considerable number of women who undergo a surgical menopause and estrogen deprivation before their natural menopause be impaired. Methods: In this study, we used 26 Wistar ra...

Neonatal methylphenidate does not impair adult spatial learning in the Morris water maze in rats.

Methylphenidate (MPD) is the most prescribed drug for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Licit and illicit use also occurs during pregnancy, however the effects from this use on offspring development are unknown. To model late gestational exposure, Sprague-Dawley litters were treated with 0, 5, 10, 20, or 30mg/kg×4/day every 2h with MPD on postnatal days 11-20 (within-litter design; days...
